CCP have released the new full length video trailer for Eve Online: Apocrypha.
The long awaited next expansion for Eve Online is now just day’s away, and this gamer is looking forward to checking out all the new features and gameplay enhancements when it’s ready.
Set a long training skill!
We’ve all had those gaming moments. Something completely unexpected happens and we just sit back and say to ourselves, or out loudly… WTF?
Gametrailers has put together a short video compiling what it believes are the top ten of these moments, from Final Fantasy characters dying through to bumping uglies in Grand Theft Auto.
EVE Online is a massively multiplayer game. Hundreds of thousands of players compete within a single persistent universe for military, economic and political power. Players explore the suns of New Eden, mine and refine resources, drive the economy, and wage war on one another in a richly detailed virtual world set 35,000 years in the future in a stellar cluster far from Earth.
This summer, CCP will bring EVE into the Empyrean Age. The four major Empires of EVE have broken their long-standing peace and are marshalling their forces for war. The outcome hinges on the actions of the galaxy’s immortal pod pilots, allowing players to direct the course of the conflict.
The events of Empyrean Age have been a long time coming, building upon nearly a century of political tension. Access to Jovian technology ushered in the age of the pod pilots and shattered the balance of power, and recent events have sparked a march towards total war.
The events leading to the outbreak of war in New Eden unfold in EVE: The Empyrean Age, the first EVE novel, written by Tony Gonzales and published in the UK by ORION Books.
Grand Theft Auto IV draws closer and closer and the really exciting screenshots and vidoes are spreading through the net.
The eagerly awaited fourth installment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise hits Australian stores on 29th April, 2008 with many of the country’s leading game retailers such as EB Games urging fans and customers to preorder their copy due to strictly limited stock availability.
The UK Video Appeals Committee (VAC) has upheld its rejection of an appeal by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) not to give the game Manhunt 2 an 18-rated age certificate.
Developed by Rockstar London and Rockstar North (based in Scotland), the controversial game was initially denied an age rating, in both censored and uncensored form, by the BBFC because of its violence and “unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone”.
This decision was subsequently overturned by the VAC, who concluded that the game was unlikely to cause harm to adults or children if given an 18 certificate (the highest age rating available in the UK).
On hearing the verdict, the BBFC vowed to take the issue to the High Court, where a judge ruled in the BBFC’s favor by declaring that the VAC’s decision was “a clear error of law” in terms of assessing the question of harm.
In a majority decision of four to three, the VAC has ignored the High Court’s directions and allowed Rockstar’s original appeal against the BBFC to stand. The BBFC has confirmed that it has no further legal recourse and will so issue the game an 18 certificate.

CuRoi recently got into this years new exciting RTS game, Sins of a Solar Empire. He reports his findings below!
I’ll start off by saying that I have not been this impressed with a space-based RTS since the heady days of Homeworld. In fact, there are a large number of parallels which may be drawn between the two. The depth SoaSE brings to the table is enough to keep this game on my hard drive for the foreseeable future. But to read the large number of syrupy reviews floating about the net one could be led to believe that SoaSE is the greatest invention since the concept of sliced bread. While I have no difficulty agreeing that the game is gorgeous and engrossing, I am of the opinion that it has been put on a pedestal due to the complete dirge of decent space-based RTS in the past several years. So I am approaching this review from a the slightly different angle of what did ~not~ thrill me, in an attempt to bring balance to the netiverse once more.
Ok. Thats a gross exaggeration. But its important to understand that I like this game a great deal, and if mine is the only review one reads, it would be easy to draw a conclusion that the game sucks goat testicles. Caveat emptor.
More than a few weeks ago we gave you a hands-off preview outlining some key gameplay features and
details for the forthcoming mobster smash, Grand Theft Auto IV. While that particular item disclosed as much information as I was privy to in my presentation, it left out one of the most significant element of this new GTA outing – hands-on.
Specifically, that was a controlled demo, however, late last week Rockstar North gave the all thumbs up to their Australian office to start letting us get down and dirty with series newcomer Niko in the robust world of modern-day Liberty City. So for a few hours yesterday, that’s exactly what I did; I ran Niko through a handful of early missions - I laid waste to goons, stole drugs, outran the cops, threw Molotov cocktails, blew up helicopters, impressed a lady, took cover, fought an old man, stole a boat, escaped the feds, drove a taxi, escorted a pot-head and ate a hot-dog. And yet, after all that, just like the last
time I saw the game, I still know I’ve barely scratched the surface of what Grand Theft Auto IV is going
to offer.
I’ve been avoiding this title for a couple of reasons:
1) I don’t need another FPS game
2) I tend to avoid real-war based FPS games recently due to them being done to death
3) I didnt want to spend the $85 on a new title
However, I had read a lot of really impressive stuff about the new game, and the fact that it wasn’t WWII based, but set in a Modern Theatre of War interested me.
So I downloaded it from Steam the other night and fired it up. This was at about 9pm, so I fugured I’d just do the intro mission and pick up from there on the weekend.
(time passes.. dinner is missed.. Wife went to bed.. Is that the Sun coming up?)
At 4am I blinked slowly as the game ended in one of the most cinematically pleasing and emotion filled scenes (for a war game) that I have ever played. It was even better than the ending to Half Life 2.
CoD4 is a seriously great game. My only quibble is that the single player campaign is very short (5-8 hours). But the sheer quality of the campaign makes up for this. I will always appreciate quality of quantity, and the fact that the campaign is the most intrguing, immersive and fun one that I have ever played makes up for the really quick Single player component.
I wont give away any spoilers, but basically you take on several roles during the game. At one point you are the President of some middle eastern country which has just undergone a revolt. You are dragged into a car, and driven through the burning city as the games opening credits roll in like a James Bond movie. You are then taken to the rebel leaders building and executed on Live TV. It’s at this point that you start really playing the game, in the avatars of a SAS Soldier and a Marine. You flip from one to the other during the storlines.
You get to play with a wide variety of realistic weapons, from knives, Pistols, Rifles, Machine Guns and one very cool Javelin personal missile system.
The plot is intense, and doesnt bog you down with too much detail or poitics. You get given enough that you have a good understanding of the mission you are on, and the backing music is just fantastic.
The game plays like a movie - and some of the scenes are interactive that you feel like your in a Raiders of the Lost arc movie.
All in all, this is by far the best FPS single player game i have ever played - beating my previousd Half Life 2. I havnt even tried the Multiplayer aspect yet, but am told there are oodles of unlockable skills, weapons and classes.
All in all, Im giving the game a 9 out of 10. Had it been a longer Single Player campaign, it would have gotten the extra point. But all in all, I think this game was made for online play.
9/10
This was a triumph
I’m making a note here
HUGE SUCCESS
It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction
Aperture Science
we do what we must because we can
for the good of all of us except for the ones who are dead
but there’s no sense crying over every mistake
you just keep on trying until you run out of cake
and the science gets done and you make a neat gun
for the people who are still alive
I’m not even angry
I’m being so sincere right now
even though you broke my heart and killed me
and torn into pieces
and threw every piece into a fire
as they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data make a wonderful line
and we’re out of beta, we’re releasing on time
so I’m glad I got burned
Think of all the things we learned for the people that are still alive
go ahead and leave me
I think I prefer to stay inside
maybe you’ll find someone else to help you
maybe black mesa
that was a joke, haha, fat chance
anyway this cake is great, it’s so delicious and moist
look at me still talking, when there’s science to do
when I look out there it makes me glad I’m not you
I’ve experiments to run, there is research to be done
on the people who are still alive
and believe me I am still alive
I’m doing science and I’m still alive
I feel FANTASTIC and I’m still alive
While you are dying I’ll be still alive
and when you’re dead I’ll be still alive
STILL ALIVE, still alive
